Cinema of formal & aesthetic innovation through strange narratives. Ou Phrontis Co. is the Austin, Texas-based production company for writer/director Stephen Billick.

Founded in 2013 after years of working as a builder in West Texas & New England, the company has aimed to look beyond the medium itself for inspiration—hoping to achieve a new filmic voice through a wild & wide-ranging set of influences mixed with a swashbuckling approach to process. Cinema as a psych swirl of things like mid-century literature, 90’s underground alternative, ranch supply store pragmatism, & post-impressionistic painting. To be more elegant & more ugly. To be more irreverent & more serious. To be smarter & more stupid. This, as every schoolboy knows, is what Napoleon called an outflanking manoeuvre.

Ou Phrontis Co. is currently in pre-production on a feature titled Oyster Perpetual—an innovative psychodrama on actors & acting set in the middle of a Hamptons winter.
